NTPC Pledges Rs 16.86 Lakh Crore for 244 GW Energy Transformation

State-run power giant NTPC has committed roughly Rs 16.86 lakh crore toward a massive expansion strategy encompassing coal, renewables, hydro, storage, mining, and nuclear initiatives.

Targeting a structural shift from a traditional thermal generator into an integrated energy enterprise, Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh announced ambitious capacity goals of 149 GW by 2032—including 60 GW from green energy—and 244 GW by 2037 during the company's 50th AGM. A current 35.7 GW active project pipeline anchors this growth, which is designed to simultaneously meet India's surging electricity demand and advance national decarbonization goals through enhanced integration across mining, fuel supply, and power trading.
